It’s that time of the night. We are well into the dance party, and the floor has been completely full since it started. Each guest has brought out their best moves and many pairs of high heels have been tossed to the side. This is one of my favorite things about being a wedding photographer. I get to play even more with my creativity, and I get to see everyone have the time of their life.
Medium format film and 35mm film is my favorite thing to use during a wedding reception. It’s raw, it’s not perfect, and it makes photography ten times more fun. I love waiting for film to get developed. The anticipation of seeing the shots that I took throughout the evening is one of the best feelings, and an even greater feeling is seeing a photo turn out better than I thought it would. I can make mistakes, add motion blur, and create double exposures.
I can also get some fabulous photos with my DSLR. I like to think that I am really good at anticipating emotions and actions of the people I take photos of. I’m always on the lookout for special moments that can’t be repeated. Getting a feel for the crowd is so important, and it helps me capture photos that make my clients smile, laugh and cry.
